Hunger Games Book Club
Join our amazing teacher Chantel Vogel to explore the adventurous world of the Hunger Games! This is a book that is highly motivating for students, especially now that the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, has been released. Chantel will give them some guidance as they read and deal with the difficult topics throughout this dystopian novel. In the Hunger Games book club, geared toward middle school to 10th grade aged students, we’ll discuss the many complex situations that appear in this novel, along with vocabulary, use of figurative language, and looking at judgments of characters and how they change through the novel. For budding writers, this is an excellent text to model how writers effectively catch a reader’s attention through description and use of figurative language. Students will be asked to read on their own about 30 minutes a day allowing about half of our time together to be dedicated to
discussion. They will need a copy of The Hunger Games, and a notebook or paper. Sticky notes and sticky arrow flags are helpful for those using paper copies of the book.
